HowQRMenuOrderingCutsRestaurantWaitingTimes
Walk into a busy restaurant at 1 PM and you'll spot the bottleneck immediately: tables seated and ready to order, and every waiter already occupied somewhere else. The kitchen usually isn't the problem — the queue to place an order is. QR menu ordering removes that queue, and for many restaurants it's the single fastest improvement they can make to table turnaround.
Where waiting time actually comes from
A table's total time breaks into three pieces: waiting to order, waiting for food, and waiting for the bill. Kitchen time is hard to compress — dishes take how long they take. The other two are pure process, and the first one is the worst offender. During a rush, a table can sit for ten minutes before anyone takes the order, and that dead time repeats at every table, every service.
Cut the wait-to-order to near zero and the same tables serve more covers per lunch — without cooking any faster.
How QR ordering works with Accron POS
Every table gets its own QR code. A customer scans it with their phone, browses your menu, and places the order directly — no app download, no waiting for a waiter to be free.
Here's the part owners worry about, and the part that matters most: the order does not fire blindly into your kitchen. It lands on your operator's screen, labeled with the table number, and your cashier or manager can accept, edit, or deny each order before it goes anywhere:
- An item just ran out? Edit the order and the customer's bill stays accurate.
- Someone scanned a code from outside and sent a joke order? Deny it — nothing was cooked, nothing was lost.
- Everything in stock and sensible? Accept, and the kitchen order ticket prints instantly at the kitchen printer.
That approval step is what makes waiterless ordering practical in real restaurants rather than just impressive in demos: you keep full control of what the kitchen actually fires.
What changes on the floor
- Order-taking time drops to nearly nothing. Customers order the moment they've decided, not the moment a waiter is free.
- Errors fall. The customer typed the order themselves, and the kitchen reads a printed KOT instead of handwriting.
- Orders get bigger. Nobody skips a second drink because flagging someone down felt like too much effort — they just scan again.
- Rush hours stop being chaos. Orders queue on one screen, in sequence, each tagged to its table.
Waiters don't disappear — they serve
QR ordering doesn't replace your team; it changes what they spend time on. Some guests will always prefer ordering from a person, and for them Accron pairs the QR flow with a Waiter Portal that runs on tablets and iPads — waiters take orders at the table and fire them into the same queue, printing the same KOTs. Either way, your staff stop being human order-relays and spend their time actually serving: running food, refilling, upselling, turning tables.
The economics
A capable waiter in a Sri Lankan city costs roughly LKR 40,000–60,000 a month once you include meals and incentives. QR ordering won't (and shouldn't) replace your team, but it means the team you have covers more tables at peak — which is exactly when extra hands are impossible to hire for just two hours a day. Compare that with a POS subscription and the maths is simple; see pricing for what Accron costs.
Rolling it out
- Print and laminate a QR code for every table — verify each code maps to the right table number.
- Tidy your digital menu: clear names, prices and photos where they help.
- Brief the counter staff on the accept / edit / deny flow — they're the gatekeepers.
- Keep the Waiter Portal active for guests who prefer to order from a person.
- After two weeks, compare covers per lunch service with the month before — your daily sales will show the change.
